Seniority
The register says what somebody is authorised to do. It says nothing about where they sit in a firm. 467 employer profile pages give a job title that does — and 206 of them are a partner, a director or a head of department.
Titles that restate the qualification — "Chartered Legal Executive", "CILEX", "Legal Executive", "Solicitor", "Paralegal" — are shown on the person's own page but are not grouped here, because they say what the register already says. Only titles describing a position are.
| Position | People |
|---|---|
| Associate | 221 |
| Partner | 127 |
| Director | 58 |
| Head of department | 21 |
| Manager | 20 |
| Consultant | 16 |
What this page is counting, and what it is not
These are people whose employer's own website currently uses the word — 467 of 11,603 on the register have a title recorded at all, because only 2,157 have an employer that publishes a profile page. A partner at a firm with no website does not appear here, and neither does one at a firm that lists its people without titles.
It is therefore a coverage figure as much as a seniority figure, and the difference is large. Asked four ways, the number of partners in this profession comes out as:
| Source | Partners | Counting |
|---|---|---|
| This page | 127 | the employer's website says so today |
| LinkedIn, current | 370 | a partner, director or head-of title held now |
| LinkedIn, ever | 527 | one held at any point in a career |
| CILEX to the Ministry of Justice | 684 | fellows who answered "Partner" when asked |
